This morning, the Cap Vermell Center hosted the presentation of the 35th edition of the Cala Rajada Half Marathon, the oldest of all those held in Mallorca. The event will take place next Saturday, April 12, starting at 5:00 p.m., with the start and finish in the Club area. The event was attended by the Councilor for Tourism, Agripina Rocha; the Councilor for Sports, Sergi Vell; the director of Serrano Hotels, Rosalia Vidal; the president of the Capdepera Hotel Association, Maria Antònia Moll; and the general manager of Unisport Consulting, Manuel Hernández.
During the presentation, the Councilor for Sports, Sergi Vell, highlighted the sporting dimension of the event: “This event not only symbolizes the effort and personal achievement of the runners, but also our municipality’s commitment to promoting sports. It is a source of pride to see how an event that began 35 years ago continues to grow and attract participants from different locations,” he said.
For her part, the Councilor for Tourism, Agripina Rocha, highlighted the impact the Half Marathon has on promoting the municipality: “This event is not just a competition, but an opportunity to showcase the wide range of our municipality’s offerings, including its hotel facilities and all the complementary offerings, as well as the rich landscape, history, and culture of our municipality.” With the 35th Cala Rajada Half Marathon, the municipality reaffirms itself as a diverse and excellent destination, capable of combining sport, tourism, and respect for the environment in a unique event.
The race, which reaches its 35th edition in 2025, becoming the longest-running half marathon on the Mallorcan calendar, is once again being held in April, as in the last two editions, with the aim of seeking less demanding weather conditions for a distance of 21.097 kilometers. In this edition, the organizers are maintaining the new features of the route that debuted in 2022, creating a circuit that participants will have to complete two laps, maintaining the spectacular and challenging nature that characterizes this race.
As Manuel Hernández, the race coordinator, pointed out, the goal is “to promote the Cala Rajada Half Marathon as a benchmark event on the Mallorcan running calendar and increase participation each year, both locally and nationally, as well as internationally.” In this regard, the increase in the number of participants for this edition was notable, with more than 400 athletes still available, compared to the 300 who participated last year.
The program for the 35th Cala Rajada Half Marathon also includes a short 10-kilometer race, with the start and finish on C/ Elionor Servera, opposite the Plaza de los Marineros in Cala Rajada. The sports day will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the distribution of race numbers, and at 5:00 p.m. the start of both races will be the same. The categories will be the same for both courses: Absolute, Master 30, Master 40, Master 50, and Local, for athletes from the municipality. There will be gifts for all participants and special prizes for the top three in each category. In addition to water refreshments every 5 km, participants will enjoy music, fresh fruit, and other surprises at the finish line.
Registration can be done online through the website https://mitjamaratocalarajada.com/ until 12:00 p.m. on April 11. On Saturday the 12th, in-person registration will also be available at the race number collection table, if the athlete has a valid federation license.
