This morning the Center Cap Vermell hosted the presentation of the XXXIV edition of the Mitja Marató de Cala Rajada, the oldest of those held in Mallorca, which will take place next Saturday, April 13, starting at 4:30 p.m. , with departure and arrival in the Cala Rajada Nautical Club area. The event was attended by the mayor of Capdepera, Mireia Ferrer, the councilor of Tourism, Agripina Rocha, the councilor of Sports, Sergi Viejo, the director of Serrano Hotels, Rosalia Vidal, the president of the Capdepera Hotel Association , Maria Antònia Moll, and the general director of Unisport Consulting, Manuel Hernández.
During the presentation, Mayor Mireia Ferrer was enthusiastic about the arrival of a new edition of the race. “The Mitja Marató de Cala Rajada is a benchmark in the world of running, and it is a real pleasure for us to be able to host an event like this, where all runners can enjoy this experience in our municipality, in a spectacular environment. and with impressive views. We also want to highlight everything that involves the race, which places Cala Rajada at the center of sport and turns the municipality into a counter to promote companies, businesses, and helps tourism and the revitalization of the local economy,” he said. .
The race, which this 2024 reaches its 34th edition, becoming the longest half marathon on the Mallorcan calendar, will be held again in April, as it happened last year, instead of June, with the aim of seeking climatic conditions that are not so demanding for a distance like 21,097 kilometers. For her part, the councilor of Turisme, Agripina Rocha, wanted to give importance to a test of this level in the municipality, highlighting “the promotion it manages to make of our tourist destination and being able to favor deseasonalization and enhance the offer of sports tourism, plural and active in the municipality before the start of the tourist season.”
Furthermore, in this edition, the organization has introduced new features to the route that debuted in 2022, creating a circuit where Mitja participants must complete two laps, which maintains the spectacularity and demand that characterizes this race.
As Manuel Hernández, coordinator of the event, has pointed out, the objective is to “promote the Mitja Marató de Cala Rajada as a reference event in the running calendar in Mallorca and increase participation each year, both at the local and national level, as well as at the national level. international”.
The program of the XXXIV Mitja Marató de Cala Rajada also includes the celebration of a short 10 kilometer race, starting and finishing at c/ d’Elionor Servera, in front of Plaça dels Mariners in Cala Rajada. The sports day will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, with the delivery of numbers, and at 4:30 p.m. both events will start. The categories will be the same on both routes: Absolute, Master 30, Master 40, Master 50 and Local, for athletes from the municipality. There will be gifts for all participants and special prizes for the top three in each category. In addition to water supplies every 5 km, participants will be able to enjoy music, fresh fruit and some other surprises upon arrival at the finish line, as explained by the Esports councillor, Sergi Viejo.
Registrations can be made electronically until 12:00 p.m. on April 12. On Saturday the 13th, there will also be in-person registration at the bib collection table, if the athlete has a valid federation license.
